Hair, for a woman in Burma an expression for who she is and she proudly twist it in a bun when at work and let it hang loose on days off. Traditionally women let their hair grow to incredible lengths, in modern times especially the younger generation might choose shorter hair, asymmetrical styles, another colour.
Hair is also a palette for expression and fresh flowers are often added.
The artists added bullets to show the strength of women and that they should not be underestimated, something that still happens a lot in Burma. What the last year has shown is that women often are at the front line.
The Tha Phay Pan leaves in this painting stand for victory which can only be achieved if women get their rightful place at the table.
